Professor Richard Hobbs, Director of the NIHR School for Primary Care Research, is appointed CBE for services to medical research, and receives the RCGP Discovery Prize.

Richard's research interests focus on cardiovascular epidemiology and clinical trials, especially relating to vascular and stroke risk, and heart failure. His research has impacted on international health policies and clinical guidelines, with over 350 original papers in peer reviewed journals, 28 book chapters and 13 edited books. Professor Hobbs sits on many national and international scientific and research funding boards, including the Board of the British Primary Care Cardiovascular Society, and is President of the European Primary Care Cardiovascular Society. He has provided clinical care in inner-city general practice for over 30 years.

Richard is also the recipient of the 2018 RCGP Discovery Prize. This award recognises outstanding research in general practice, which has health care and the wellbeing of patients.
