Congratulations to Dr Brian McMillan, Clinical Lecturer in Primary Care at the University of Manchester, who has been awarded an NIHR Advanced Fellowship.

The fellowship will enable Dr McMillan to build on his previous SPCR-funded work looking at what patients want from online access to their primary care record. Part of this study has been published in BJGP and a second article is currently under review.

The NIHR Fellowship will fund Dr McMillan to apply what was learned from this previous research, and to explore how enhancing patients’ experiences of accessing their primary care health record online could increase patient activation, improve care, and lead to better health outcomes.

In 2018, Dr McMillan's article on Reducing risk of type 2 diabetes after gestational diabetes: a qualitative study to explore the potential of technology in primary care was amongst BJGP's top ten publications.
