The award gives recognition to an individual or a group of researchers who has undertaken and published an exceptional piece of research relating to general practice or primary care.
The research team were all so pleased to accept the award which recognises the importance of the challenging findings of this study to patients, professionals and policy makers." -- Anne Kennedy, University of Southampton, who received the award at the RCGP conference.
Peter Bower, co-author and SPCR board member at the University of Manchester, commented "We are very proud of the WISE study – a true team effort, working with general practices around the North West, and engaging with thousands of patients to deliver a very large, complex trial in an area crucial to future NHS policy. The WISE intervention did not deliver evidence of the sorts of benefits we were hoping for. However, we did manage to deliver a study that combined rigorous methods with real-world implementation – and we hope the results will have impact for many years to come."
