The VOICES study (ViOlence: Impact on Children Evidence Synthesis), hosted at the University of Bristol, is a NIHR School for Primary Care Research funded investigation to find out what the impact of exposure to domestic violence is on children and the implications for a primary care response.

The study is pleased to welcome Lisa Arai to the team of researchers next month. The research aims to bring together evidence about how being exposed to domestic violence and abuse (DVA) affects children’s health and well-being. Much of the work in this area has thus far been based on survey research, which neither captures the depth of experience nor the voices of the children themselves. Lisa will be working on a systematic literature review to find papers reporting qualitative findings on this topic. The VOICES study will link closely with the range of domestic violence and abuse research carried out at the Centre for Academic Primary Care in Bristol

Research team: Alison Heawood1 (co-PI), Alison Gregory (co-PI), Gene Feder, Theresa Moore, Emma Howarth, Harriet Macmillan, Nicky Stanley
