PPI can be used to:

  • Make sure the question you are asking is important to the public
  • Communicate the results to the public and other stakeholders
  • Also see Lay summaries

The important thing to think about is where PPI would be useful and appropriate for your study, and demonstrating you have thought about this in your PPI plan. Not every project will require involvement at each stage of the research cycle.

See our resources for more details.

See our other FAQs for advice on how to do PPI at different stages and other important things to consider.
