Shoba Poduval

I am a GP & National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) Academic Clinical Lecturer at the eHealth Unit.

Shoba Poduval

My research interests are in online self-management support for people with Type 2 Diabetes and Prediabetes. I also organise teaching for medical students on nutrition and digital health, and teach postgraduate students on health informatics and qualitative research methods.

Background

After completing my GP training in 2011, I did an MSc in Public Health at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine. I joined the eHealth Unit in 2014 after gaining a GP Career Progression Fellowship from the NIHR School for Primary Care Research. I went on to complete my PhD in 2019 after undertaking research to develop and assess a web-based programme called HeLP-Diabetes: Starting Out.  The aim of the programme was to provide patients, newly diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes, an alternative to face-to-face groups and to learn about how to achieve physical & emotional well-being through improved self-management.
