\n \n \n \nShoulder problems affect about 20% of adults at any one time. In England, annually about 1.5 million people visit their general practitioner for shoulder pain. Problems affecting the tendons in the shoulder account for nearly 70% of all painful shoulder conditions. This condition impacts on the ability to sleep, work, and perform everyday activities, and is therefore associated with large costs to the NHS and society. Although many people recover within a few months, about half still report shoulder pain 12 months after first consulting their general practitioner.
