George Lewith Prize 2024 - Open for applications

The NIHR School for Primary Care Research (SPCR) is welcoming applications from medical students for the George Lewith prize.

The School launched the prize in memoriam of George Lewith, who was Professor of Primary Care at the University of Southampton, and SPCR training lead. Professor Lewith made remarkable contributions to academic primary care and in particular to research in the area of complementary medicine, as a training lead, mentor and supervisor.

Prof Lewith sadly passed away on the 17th March 2017 and we are proud to open the competition today to continue his legacy. This prize aims to raise the profile of academic primary care as a discipline and to encourage talented medical students to consider a career in the field.

All medical students at a UK university are eligible to apply for the prize, which will cover their registration fees for the Society for Academic Primary Care (SAPC) annual scientific meeting, held this year on the 3-5 July.

To enter the competition you need to submit:

  1. A summary of a piece of work undertaken in general practice.  This could be an original research paper, a case report, an audit, a conference abstract, etc. This should be no longer than 3000 words (excluding references).
  2. A written reflective summary of no more than 500 words describing how the applicant contributed to the work.

Applications need to be submitted by 12noon on Friday 19 April 2024applications.spcr@keele.ac.uk
