Esther van Vliet joined the SPCR in early December and will be leading the School's programme of patient and public involvement and engagement.

Esther brings a wealth of expertise in engagement from the health charity sector. She hopes to develop this component within the School as well as deepen relations with partners for increased participation across the School.

Esther talks about HOW her INTEREST IN ppie HAS DEVELOPED

"My passion for PPIE started when I wrote my masters’ thesis on open innovation and stakeholder involvement in medicine development. After receiving my MSc in Innovation Sciences from Eindhoven University of Technology (the Netherlands), I moved to England to become a PPIE professional. In the last years I worked on stakeholder involvement at the European Medicines Agency, facilitated patient and public involvement in dementia research at Alzheimer’s Society and most recently I organised various public engagement activities on behalf of the Babraham Institute in Cambridge.

In my role I support the delivery of the School’s PPI and public engagement strategy by working closely together with the PPI academic lead and the PPI leads of each partner organisation."
