\n \n \n \nUK incidence of the serious skin cancer melanoma is rising rapidly and action in primary care settings has potential to substantially improve early diagnosis and drive better outcomes for patients. Research from the Primary Care Unit in Cambridge is shaping diagnosis procedures in primary care which could deliver measurable reductions in mortality and morbidity amongst patients with melanoma.

\n \n \n \nDoctoral researcher Benjamin Fletcher and researchers at the Universities of Oxford and Cambridge have had their publication 'Self-monitoring blood pressure in patients with hypertension: an internet-based survey of UK GPs' featured in the August edition of BJGP. The research presents the findings of a survey (with 300 GPs) to assess current practice of using self-monitoring of blood pressure (SMBP) for the control of hypertension.

\n \n \n \nFleeting \u2018mini-strokes\u2019 suffered by 50,000 Britons a year may have a long-lasting impact, experts warn.\r\nMini-strokes, also called transient ischaemic attacks or TIAs, are usually considered a short-term issue and are often dismissed as exhaustion, a migraine or a \u2018funny turn\u2019. When they are taken seriously at all, it is usually because they can be a warning sign that a major stroke is on the way.
