NIHR Doctoral Research Training Camp - Applying for Further Funding

The doctoral training camp is a 3 day annual face to face event which provides guidance and practical experience to learn how to put together a successful application for funding.

A key aspect of a career in research is the ability to know how to put together a successful application for funding. This training camp will offer delegates access to workshops, inspirational speakers and practical experience in preparing grant proposals. The focus of the Training Camp will be the development of a funding application for a fictitious research programme. Delegates will work in small, mixed professional groups over three days to prepare a proposal to present to a panel of experts. Each group will be appointed an experienced health/care researcher as a mentor and a public contributor and have access to an open office of experts.

At the end of the training camp delegates will have been exposed to a range of skills needed when applying for funding, and have had the opportunity to network with a variety of doctoral students from diverse scientific and professional backgrounds. The programme will include workshops/presentations on:

• Career experiences from an inspirational speaker

• Selling yourself and your research project

• Patient and public involvement and engagement

• NIHR funding opportunities

Please note that the NIHR will be live streaming the first day of the camp again so there will be the opportunity for additional virtual attendees to experience part of the event - this might be particularly pertinent for 1st year PhD students or for individuals who are not able to attend all 3 days of the camp in person.

Virtual Attendee Registration

Following  the success of last year's virtual offering at the July 2022 Training Camp, the plenary sessions from the first day will be live streamed and accessible via a Zoom Webinar from 12.30 - 16.00 on Monday 26 June 2023

This virtual element of the camp is open to all. We are keen that a wide range of trainees, early career researchers and Academy members are able to benefit from the Training Camp in this way.
