NIHR provides training and career development awards ranging from undergraduate level through to opportunities for established investigators and research leaders. The awards are open to a wide range of professions and designed to suit different working arrangements and career pathways. 

NIHR Academy manages national competitions for training awards.  

The awards:

  • are generous - often attracting university fees, full salary, bespoke training opportunities and research costs
  • are prestigious with well-defined career paths for various clinical and non-clinical professions
  • provide access to the NIHR Academy Conference and bespoke workshops and meetings. 

Each centre and unit within the Trainees Coordinating Centre has a Training Lead with responsibility for local training strategy.  The training leads work together through the NIHR Infrastructure Training Forum to develop excellence in training techniques.Training is also provided in the  Biomedical Research Centres and UnitsCollaborations for Leadership in Applied Health and Social CarePatient Safety Translational Research Units and the Schools for Primary Care and Public Health.
