The triennial theme for World Suicide Prevention Day (2024–2026) is “Changing the Narrative on Suicide”. This theme calls on us all to challenge harmful myths, reduce stigma, and foster open, compassionate conversations about suicide. The NIHR School for Primary Care Research (SPCR) host the Three NIHR Research Schools' Mental Health Research Programme, an initiative that focuses on improving mental health outcomes and this includes commissioning research to evaluate interventions aimed at reducing suicide attempts and suicide.

VIDEO: Care gaps among people presenting to the hospital following self-harm. Dr Sarah Steeg, Three Schools’ Mental Health Fellowship award holder, presented findings from her research into care gaps among people who have harmed themselves. The focus was upon understanding the care and support people receive after they have sought help for self-harm. Appropriate and timely care can help prevent further self-harm and is key for suicide prevention.
