Congratulations to SPCR colleague, Dr Kelly Birtwell, who has recently been awarded an RCGP/SAPC Outstanding Early Career Researcher Award.

Congratulations to Dr Kelly Birtwell | Outstanding Early Career Researcher Award

The Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP) and the Society for Academic Primary Care (SAPC) have jointly awarded Dr Kelly Birtwell the 2025 Outstanding Early Career Researcher Award in the Primary Healthcare Scientist category. This award recognises the contribution of early career researchers to advancing primary care theory and practice.

Dr Birtwell serves as the Co-Training Lead for the NIHR School for Primary Care Research (SPCR), and is also a Research Fellow and NIHR Research Support Service Advisor at the University of Manchester. Her research focuses on developing and evaluating mindfulness-based interventions (MBIs) tailored for underserved populations, particularly those in socioeconomically deprived areas, and improving access to healthcare for people who are currently underserved by research and practice.
