Oxford researchers have launched a new partnership to tackle UK healthcare workforce challenges, leveraging SPCR funding.

New Research Partnership Tackles Healthcare Workforce Challenges

A new research partnership led by the Nuffield Department of Primary Care Health Sciences at the University of Oxford aims to address urgent challenges facing the healthcare workforce in the UK. The collaboration brings together academic researchers, healthcare professionals, and policymakers to explore sustainable solutions to workforce shortages, burnout, and retention—issues that have intensified in recent years.

This work builds on the foundation of the School for Primary Care Research (SPCR)-funded project GP workforce sustainability (grant reference No 593), which investigates long-term strategies to support general practice and strengthen the primary care workforce.

Professor Sophie Park from the Nuffield Department of Primary Care Health Sciences, who is leading the realist review workstream for this project said: This collaboration represents a significant opportunity to address some of the most pressing workforce challenges facing our healthcare system today."

The partnership’s innovative, multi-disciplinary approach reflects a growing recognition that supporting the wellbeing and sustainability of the workforce is vital for the future of healthcare delivery.
