The NIHR School for Primary Care Research (SPCR) is delighted to celebrate and congratulate several of our colleagues who have recently received awards and honours for their contributions to primary care research, education, and practice.

Celebrating Excellence in Primary Care Research and Education: SPCR Colleagues Honoured
  • Professor Jaspal Singh Taggar, former SPCR Academic Clinical Fellow, has been awarded an MBE in the King’s Birthday Honours 2025. A practising GP and key figure at the University of Nottingham, Professor Taggar serves as Professor of Primary Care and Medical Education, Head of Undergraduate Primary Care Education, and Director of the Primary Care Education Unit. The MBE recognises his exceptional service to general practice and medical education. Read the full UoN press release

  • Dr Rachel Johnson, from the University of Bristol, has received the Society for Academic Primary Care (SAPC) Principal Investigator/Medical Educator of the Year Award. Nominated by early career academic colleagues, Dr Johnson has been recognised for her outstanding and inspiring support of emerging researchers and educators in primary care.
  • Charlotte Archer, also from the University of Bristol, was highly commended in the SAPC/RCGP Outstanding Early Careers Researchers (Primary Care Scientist) Award.
  • Francesca Dakin, from the University of Oxford, has been awarded both a Junior Research Fellowship at St Anne’s College and the Centre for Personalised Medicine, along with a Mildred Blaxter Postdoctoral Fellowship. These honours will support Francesca’s work in digital primary care research.
  • Professor Richard Neal, Professor of Primary Care and Director of the Exeter Collaboration for Academic Primary Care (APEx) at the University of Exeter, has been awarded the Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP) President’s Medal. This honour recognises Professor Neal’s consistent efforts and contributions toward achieving the RCGP’s mission of maintaining the highest possible standards in general practice.
