Over the past year, several events have provided opportunities to share ongoing work in SPCR primary care nursing research and strengthen collaboration within the community.

Primary Care Nursing Update 2025

Primary care nursing took centre stage this year as new research, national leadership, and growing academic partnerships helped push the field forward.

On February 10th, the SPCR hosted its third annual Nursing Research Conference, marking a fresh chapter as the event moved from its former home at Keele to a new venue in Nottingham. The conference drew a full house of delegates, all eager to engage with a diverse programme of presentations and posters showcasing primary care research.

A highlight of the day was the presence of NHS England’s Leads for Nursing Research, Professor Joanne Cooper and Professor Alison Richardson, who expressed their enthusiasm at the momentum building within primary care research. Their remarks underscored a growing national recognition of the vital role nurses play in the research landscape.

The year’s progress continued into summer. In July 2025, Dr Andrew Finney represented the SPCR at the Society of Academic Primary Care (SAPC) Conference in Cardiff. His presentation highlighted the SPCR’s expanding contribution to primary care research, offering insight into how the consortium is helping grow research capacity, strengthen collaborations, and elevate nursing-led scholarship across the UK.
