The SPCR recently hosted a masterclass titled “Communicating effectively with policy makers”, led by Dr Jonathan Hammond. The session explored how researchers can engage with policy processes to help ensure their findings influence real-world health-care decisions.

SPCR Masterclass | Communicating effectively with policy makers

The interactive masterclass focused on practical strategies for communicating research with clarity and relevance. Participants learned how to craft compelling policy briefs, frame evidence within current policy contexts, and develop productive relationships with policy makers. The session also offered space for reflection on how to amplify research impact through engagement with commissioning, guidelines, and funding decisions.

Speaker:
Dr Jonathan Hammond is Senior Lecturer in Health Policy and Organisation at The University of Manchester. He is part of the HOPE (Health Organisation, Policy & Economics) research group, a member of the Policy Research Unit for Health and Social Care Systems and Commissioning, and course unit lead for Introduction to Health Policy on the Master of Public Health programme. His research involves extensive engagement with policy makers, including providing evidence to Select Committee Enquiries and to members of the House of Commons and House of Lords.
