By attending this course I will be able to enhance my expertise with this specialised methodology, and look beyond my own data to other applied clinical settings. I am confident that the opportunities for skills development provided by the SPCR strongly supported my application for this award. - Charlotte Albury
The workshop will be led by Professor Paul Drew and Dr Laura Thompson, from Loughborough University, who specialise in communication in clinical settings. This ESRC bursary will enable Charlotte to apply new analytic perspectives to her School funded research, "The focus of this research is on communication during the BWeL trial, where patients were offered a free referral to weight watchers or slimming world by their GP. My analysis centers on how doctors construct these treatment recommendations, and which formulations positively motivate patients to attend their free referral." said Charlotte.
Charlotte will be using conversation analysis (CA) to conduct her analysis, which focuses on forensic micro-analysis of talk-in-interaction.
